| A Certified Flight Instructor rating is required in order to teach students, and many pilots start their helicopter flying careers as flight instructors. |

| FAA Requirements |
- Applicant must hold a Commercial Pilot/Helicopter license and a Second Class
medical certificate
- Pass two FAA written examinations
- Obtain sufficient dual instruction for proficiency.
- Pass an FAA oral and flight
proficiency examination (check-ride)
